The Indian Navy is set to commission the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, Nipun, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Aug. 31.

The Nipun will be employed for conducting deep-sea diving and other underwater operations. Moreover, the ship will conduct submarine rescue operations and assist divers working in tough sea conditions.

The ship has been designed and constructed in India by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), based in Visakhapatnam.

The ship was handed over to the Indian Navy on July 30 after completing the process of outfitting and trials.

Nipun has been built to support various types of diving and underwater operations. It has modern diving systems and equipment for conducting underwater operations that will assist divers during their operations at sea.

It has advanced navigation and ship management systems, as well as equipment required to conduct positioning operations. It also has dedicated facilities for diving, underwater operations and medical support.

This equipment will help the ship conduct complex underwater missions and assist divers in operations of extended duration.
