Perceived past and future changes in marine environments: community perspectives from coastal Vietnam
Understanding community perspectives on environmental change is paramount for effective marine management. This study, conducted within Vietnam’s Cù Lao Chàm–Hội An Biosphere Reserve, empirically assessed the perceptions of 252 coastal residents regarding marine environments over the past and anticipated future decade. Analysis revealed structured perceptions clustered around marine resources, water quality, aquaculture, and habitats, with significant declines in resources and aquaculture anticipated. Notably, differing perceptions between mainland and island communities highlight the influence of local context.

Efficient seabed mapping demands innovative data management strategies. This study introduces a novel methodology for underwater photomosaic construction, significantly reducing computational burden by filtering redundant visual information. Through a two-phase process—image preprocessing and intelligent filtering—we achieved an Image Reduction Ratio of up to 49.91%, decreasing processing time by 30% without compromising data integrity (Feature Persistence Ratio >0.97). This scalable approach is particularly valuable for large-area benthic assessments, demonstrating a practical solution for ecological monitoring.
