Watch: Indian Sailor Unexpectedly Reunites With Father Aboard Another Ship In North Atlantic

An Indian seafarer got an unexpected surprise while sailing in the North Atlantic Ocean when he spotted another ship coming towards him and realised his father was on board.

Rusheel Saran was sailing north when he noticed a large vessel approaching. He checked the ship’s details and route and found that his father, Raviraj, was on board.

Raviraj’s ship was heading south. The two ships were therefore travelling in opposite directions, but their routes happened to cross in the middle of the ocean.

Rusheel filmed the moment and later posted it on Instagram. He wrote about how unusual it was to meet his father like this, far from land and while both were sailing on their own ships.

The meeting also made Rusheel think about his childhood and the path he has taken as a seafarer. He wrote about growing up and finding his own way while still being connected to the person who taught him how to navigate life.

Rusheel’s father told him that they had found each other in the middle of the ocean while travelling in different directions but sharing the same sea.

The video received many comments from seafarers and others who have family members working at sea.

One person said the happiness and pride on Raviraj’s face could be seen clearly. Another described the meeting as wholesome and beautiful.

Someone else recalled the lessons they had learnt from a person they called “Sir” and said they would always be grateful for them.

A viewer said they had seen something similar on their first ship in 2017. Another said the meeting made the ocean suddenly feel like home.

A person who said they had spent years working in maritime operations said they had met many crew members and formed close bonds with them, but had never witnessed a meeting like this.

Others shared stories from their own lives at sea. One person said their husband, who was a chief officer, had once met his uncle, a captain, when their ships berthed at the same port. The vessels were there for only a day.

The person also wished Rusheel and his father safe and calm seas.

After the two ships crossed paths, they continued on their separate routes.
