Refining Echolocation Detection with Calibrated Wavelet Filters

Sperm whale clicks are broadband and powerful, but they share the deep soundscape with transient noise that fools conventional detectors. This paper proposes a calibrated wavelet filter designed to match the Gabor-like shape of a sperm whale click, reconstructing the signal so that only impulsive click regions produce high peaks. The result is a measurable reduction in false detections without sacrificing true positives.
