Octopus locomotion reveals measurable principles for adaptive soft robotics

An octopus can slip its entire body, bulbous mantle and all, through a hole no bigger than its beak. In the lab, researchers observed specific, repeatable movements that make this possible. These are not tricks; they are measurable, empirical principles. Understanding them could redefine adaptive soft robotics, inspiring body plans that collapse and expand with purpose.
