World Data Ocean/shrimp production

shrimp production

World Data Ocean keeps shrimp production in one place: one story so far. The section currently leads with “Measuring the causal link between subsidies and Mexico's shrimp farm output”. In Mexico's high-risk, high-return shrimp farming sector, subsidies for biological inputs have long been assumed to boost production, but until now, no causal evidence existed. A Global Hub for Ocean Intelligence 4 World Data Ocean is a centralized digital platform where researchers, scientists, and ocean enthusiasts converge to… The list below is every shrimp production story on World Data Ocean, newest first.

Measuring the causal link between subsidies and Mexico's shrimp farm output

In Mexico's high-risk, high-return shrimp farming sector, subsidies for biological inputs have long been assumed to boost production, but until now, no causal evidence existed. This study applies a two-stage least squares design to measure that link, finding that subsidies for shrimp larvae added 109.95 tons on semi-intensive farms and 82.56 tons on intensive systems. It is the first causal analysis of its kind in Mexican aquaculture. For related work on marine productivity, see our validated study on artificial upwelling.
