Strange Peer review request
A recent discussion proposes leveraging narrative storytelling to enhance the communication of complex environmental science, particularly concerning climate change, arguing that emotional engagement can drive greater behavioral change. This perspective challenges traditional, fact-based approaches. An emeritus professor of marine and earth science, observing a disconnect between intellectual understanding and risk perception among students—including a prevalent techno-optimism—has undertaken an innovative approach: crafting an eco-mystery to convey scientific concepts. He invites peer review of an advance copy, recognizing the unconventional nature of the request.

Bridging the microplastic awareness gap: community awareness, risk perception, and policy support for mitigating plastic pollution in Eastern Black Sea catchments
Effective plastic pollution mitigation requires a clear understanding of community awareness, risk perception, and policy support. This study, analyzing data from 151 respondents across Eastern Black Sea catchment communities, reveals a significant knowledge-concern asymmetry: while plastic waste awareness is moderate, microplastic awareness remains lower despite high risk perception and strong policy endorsement. Notably, increased microplastic awareness correlates positively with broader plastic waste awareness, highlighting a critical area for targeted communication strategies.
