A review and assessment of Copernicus water quality and temperature products in coastal waters: insights from the Adriatic Sea

Copernicus satellite data offers valuable insights into ocean conditions, but challenges remain in accurately representing the complexities of coastal waters. This review assesses the performance of Copernicus water quality and sea surface temperature (SST) products within the Northern Adriatic Sea, utilizing multi-year in-situ measurements. Results indicate high reliability for SST and improved chlorophyll-a accuracy with bias correction. Turbidity products, however, require further refinement.

Understanding the marine carbon cycle necessitates comprehensive observations of particulate inorganic carbon (PIC) concentrations. World Data Ocean introduces two autonomous optical sensor prototypes leveraging cross-polarized light scattering to measure PIC in seawater, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional methods. Laboratory validation demonstrated sensitivity across a broad oceanic range (0.1-400 μg C L−1), revealing species-specific optical signatures.
