Validating ocean prediction: the operational legacy of Global NCOM

For nearly two decades, Global NCOM delivered validated, operational ocean predictions for the U.S. Navy, a legacy of measurable precision. Developed by the Naval Research Laboratory from the Princeton Ocean Model, its hybrid vertical coordinates provided a calibrated view of the sea. This system of ocean intelligence was a foundation for what came next. For deeper context on validated carbon observations, see our coverage of the Global pCO2 Database.
