life's building blocks

Speed and trajectory challenge comets as life's molecular carriers

A new study challenges a long-held assumption about how life's molecular building blocks arrived on early Earth. Most comets, it turns out, would have struck our planet at velocities and angles too extreme for those fragile compounds to survive. Speed and trajectory, not just composition, now emerge as the critical variables. This recalibration of cosmic delivery systems refines our understanding of life's origins, and echoes themes explored in our coverage of Kikai caldera's refilling magma reservoir, where planetary forces continue to shape deep-time processes.
