Measuring the ocean's measurable role as our planet's largest carbon sink

The ocean absorbs more carbon than any other system on Earth, yet its role is often invisible in climate accounting. Goal 14 demands we change that. Covering three-quarters of the planet and holding 97% of its water, the ocean is not just vast; it is our greatest carbon sink, a source of food and medicine, and a natural shield against storms. Understanding drives protection. For deeper context on human pressures, see our piece on three calibrated pressures agriculture places on planetary climate indicators.
