Fifteen krill species map the Benguela food web's nutritional architecture

Fifteen krill species map the Benguela food web's nutritional architecture, and the findings demand a recalibration of how we model these waters. Lantern shrimp are far more than a simple link between plankton and predators. Their species-specific diets, ranging from herbivory to exclusive carnivory, reveal a complex trophic tapestry. This empirical data, validated through stable isotope and fatty acid analysis, underscores the need for integrated food-web models.
