Seagrass seeding density boosts shoots, not per-seed success rates

Higher seeding density drives shoot establishment in eelgrass restoration, but it does not improve the odds that any individual seed will take root. In a field experiment across Back Sound, North Carolina, researchers attached seeds to juvenile clams and deployed them at densities from 10 to 100 seeds per clam. More seeds produced more shoots, yet per-seed success rates remained constant. Surface deployment proved as effective as manual burial, offering a less labor-intensive path for scaling restoration.
