Bivalves represent a vital, sustainable source of protein and essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), notably EPA and DHA. This pilot study of the Mediterranean mussel, *Mytilus galloprovincialis*, reveals significant sex-related differences in nutritional composition, despite comparable proximate values between male and female specimens. Notably, female mussels exhibited substantially elevated lipid content, PUFA fractions, and critical n-3 fatty acids, alongside higher levels of vitamin B12, iron, selenium, and iodine.

Legacy and alternative halogenated flame retardants in sediment and bivalves along Korean coast: geographic distribution, temporal trends, contamination sources, and ecological risk

A comprehensive analysis of sediment and bivalves along the Korean coast has revealed widespread presence of legacy and alternative halogenated flame retardants (HFRs), including PBDEs, HBCDDs, and novel compounds. Measured across 50 locations, contaminant levels correlated with proximity to industrial areas, harbors, and aquaculture. Observed shifts in HFR usage indicate a transition toward alternative chemicals, with BDE 47 and α-HBCDD exhibiting notable bioaccumulation potential. While risks from legacy compounds are generally low, localized concentrations of BDE 209 warrant concern.
