Recent studies suggest that polymetallic nodules generate small electrical currents that split seawater molecules, leading to oxygen production thousands of meters beneath the surface. These nodules also inspire biomimicry, driving innovations in corrosion-resistant materials, self-cleaning surfaces, and designs for spacecraft in extreme environments.
